New Features Coming in Release 3.3

DIVER 3.3 should be released shortly. It contains some new features and is optimized to run under IRIX 6.3 and above. The demo version included here is 3.1, so look for even more power in the next release. Existing DIVER users should call us for upgrade information. New features include:

Matte Mode - Process just matte channels of your images without having to separate them from the rest of the image. This is great for laying off mattes to your disk recorders.
Use Lists of Files - You can process groups of images that may or may not have consistent numbering by using the file list processing modes.
Image File Name Browsing - Selecting images just got easier, allowing you to point and click on file names for the images you want to process.

Let's build up a complex example, and see how easy it is to perform in DIVER.

Let's say you have a bunch of PCs running SOFTIMAGE. They are rendering a job of 900 frames at resolution 640 x 480 into Softimage format. The job will be done at two in the morning and the client is coming in at 8am to see the animation. You figure the PCs will run out of disk space at 11:30pm, at which point if you don't intervene they'll stop rendering. You need to move the images over to the SGI, delete them off the PCs, scale them to 720 x 486 on the SGI, convert to YUV format, and record them to a disk recorder.

How would you do it? You could come in twice during the night to check on things and run a couple of commands. Or, you see what kind of shell scripts you have lying around and see if anything could be modified to work in this situation.

Or, you could set up the entire process in DIVER in under a minute and head home for the night, confident that your completed animation will be ready for you on the disk recorder when you arrive.
